The FetchFind Interviews - Behind the Scenes

On a ridiculously cold day in mid-November, FetchFind hit the streets with Chicago Pet Video to talk to people about their dogs. We roamed all over the territory north of the Chicago River, to tourist hot spots as well as dog parks, asking as many people as possible questions about dogs. Some had dogs, some didn’t, but just about everyone we talked to loved them! We also got to see tons of dog pictures on smartphones, which was a lot of fun. We even got to meet a few dogs out and about with their owners, including a very handsome cattle dog, a basset hound with the best ears ever, and a couple of really cute papillons.

One of the things we wanted to find out by doing these “person on the street” interviews is the basic knowledge level about dogs in the general population. We asked questions like “What does a wagging tail mean?”, “Is the city a good place to own a dog?”, and “What type of substances are dangerous for dogs to ingest?". Some of the answers surprised us – but you’ll have to wait until we unveil the official video to see the interviews. (Yes, we’re teasing you.)

Things that we learned during our eight hours of filming:

  • Dress warmly. Very warmly.

  • Dog parks are good places for interviews.

  • Dogs are great ice-breakers when approaching strangers to ask questions.

  • People can be very generous with their time when dogs are involved, but after about 3pm everybody just wants to go home already. (So did Sarah.)
