You all know how I love my tech stuff, and it makes me inordinately happy to see the useful and elegant intersection between technology and the pet industry. Some of the apps I’ve been playing around with lately:
Pose-a-Pet – Jennifer Whaley, of Fetch Portraits, started this app as a natural extension of her work photographing rescue pets. The goal is to enable everyone to get great pictures and increase the exposure of adoptable animals, therefore reducing the time it takes for shelters, rescues, and foster networks to market and rehome their pets. Pose-a-Pet also helps bring new revenue streams to rescuers through their 50/50 Shelter Share Program. For Android and iOS.
ResQWalk – This is a nifty app that enables you raise money for shelters and rescues across the U.S. and Canada. Every week there is a donation pool, and donations are proportionally dispersed to the organizations depending on the total distances logged by supporters. Bonus: it encourages you to get out and walk! For Android and iOS. (ResQWalk is one of the ResQThreads brands, which also includes the Animal Tales iOS app and Dapper Dog Coffee; all of them are dedicated to raising money and awareness for animal rescues.)
Woof App - Mark Wade, CEO and Founder, created this mobile app to let potential adopters browse images of available pets in a given area. You can search across multiples shelters and rescues, as well as sort by breed, gender, age, size range, and behavior notes. The photos are full-screen, and the app lets you contact the shelter or rescue directly by phone or email if you have any questions. This app, released just last year, has gotten amazing reviews. For iOS.
And currently being rolled out on a trial basis in New Zealand:
Pedigree Found – based on the Google ad network, Pedigree Found will allow owners to register their dogs on the app, and send out a real time, geo-targeted message if the dog is lost. For Android and iOS.
