This week on Speed Breeds – the Newfoundland; or, Dogs Who Don’t Mind Really Cold Weather.
Name: Newfoundland
AKC Classification: Working Group
The biggest Newfie on record weighed 260 pounds and measured more than 6 feet from nose to tail.
Unlike the regular doggie paddle of most dogs, the swimming stroke of the Newfie is down and out (almost like a breast stroke). This motion, along with its massive webbed feet, gives it more power in the water.
